Arsh Shah Dilbagi: TALK
TALK — breath-to-speech device using Morse code.

Dilbagi looked for the one motor function almost every locked-in patient keeps: breathing. A MEMS microphone near the nose distinguishes short and long exhalations, a microcontroller reads them as Morse code and a second processor speaks the words. Target cost was under US$100 against thousands for commercial devices; it was tested with a patient at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi. He was Google Science Fair 2014's only finalist from Asia and won the Voter's Choice Award; at Intel ISEF 2015 he is recorded as receiving a special award from the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
