Param Jaggi: Algae Mobile

Stopped at a stop sign in Plano, Texas, Jaggi, from an Indian-American family, watched exhaust leave the car in front and asked whether a living filter could sit on the tailpipe. His canister bubbles exhaust through an algae culture so photosynthesis converts part of the carbon dioxide. Algae survival at exhaust temperatures kept it a prototype, but it won the EPA's sustainability award at Intel ISEF 2011 and put him on two Forbes 30 Under 30 lists.
