Jewan Shabi studied the application of low-global-warming-potential refrigerants in hydrate-based water desalination. The project recognises an important systems problem: a method intended to create freshwater should not shift excessive environmental cost into its refrigeration stage.

Innovation mindset: Evaluate the whole process, because a sustainable output can still hide an unsustainable input.

Official project title: Innovative Application of Low GWP Refrigerants in Hydrate-Based Water Desalination (Environmental Engineering).
