Chronic wounds are more common than many cancers and rarely researched, Naiknaware found. She inkjet-printed a biocompatible sensor of chitosan and carbon nanoparticles onto a dressing to measure moisture and signal when a change is actually needed, since disturbing a chronic wound slows healing. She was the youngest winner at the Google Science Fair 2016 and has a minor planet named after her.
