Watching an ironing vendor near her home in Tiruvannamalai tip out spent charcoal, Vinisha calculated how much charcoal India's street ironing trade burns every day, read the physics from college textbooks, and sent a design to the National Innovation Foundation at 12. NIF's engineers built it: roof-mounted solar panels charging a battery bank that powers a steam iron, with about six hours of ironing from a day's sun, plus a coin-operated phone-charging point so the vendor earns more. She won the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE Award in 2019, the Children's Climate Prize in 2020, and in 2021, at 14, was the youngest finalist of the Earthshot Prize, then addressed COP26 in Glasgow.
