The vaccine targets merozite surface proteins and the erythrocyte binding domains of multiple parasite adhesions blocking their interaction with their receptors and thus inhibiting erythrocyte invasion. The inventions also provide a method of treatment wherein the antigens block the sialic acid independent as well as sialic acid dependent binding of the parasite P. falciparum to the erythrocyte.
